when jumpstarting a car, will it work if the engine on the good car is switched off? or does the engine need to be running?

    Better if running giving more "power" from alternator as well. But if it's a good battery and car being jumpstarted isn't totally dead it should be fine. Worst case you're draining the good battery

    Best to keep the other engine running. Otherwise starting the "dead" car might drain the "good" car battery.
