Is 11 too young to train horses?

My 11 year old daughter wants to train horses and I think she could do it excellently we want to buy her a horse but simply do not have the money right now. we would need to have a way to get money like horse training where she would get a reasonable amount of money. But who would train her to do that? Who would hire her? I know she would be good but we haven't found anyone to give her a chance if you know who would or if she is simply too young to be taken seriously please tell me. Thanks ! :)

No one would hire her, frankly.

She is way to young. I'm 21, and break in plus train show jumpers. My dream since I was even younger hen her was to train, but not my non horsey mum, or horsey cousin weren't having it. It's a good job to, the horse I wanted to train was a nightmare when someone actually began to train him.

It is dangerous. From my yards foals (who I am paid to handle) I have been bitten and kicked. There is three, two straightened out pretty quick within a week or two of me working with them. The third took longer - He is generally a more aggressive horse, not nasty, but the ring leader of all the foals and a lovable trouble maker. The previous horse I trained was lovely, but very nervous. It took a while for trust to build, and even longer for me to find her a home where she would be happy. The horse I have now is a wizz kid, 4 years old of stallion, stunning but a handful although he is coming on amazingly and will make a great jumper. Now, these are young sports horses but I have seen little ponies, cobs and calmer horses freak when it comes to training, and be pain in the butts.

I really would not let her do it. It isn't easy, or safe especially when she is so young and way to young to have what I would call 'serious' training. When she is 16 she should go to college to do the horse management course. I did this and you learn about training, too.

I too, wonder if this is a real post. Any responsible parent would not put child into this dangerous situation or believe that a child could even do this. Do you want to know why thousands of horses go through the slaughter auctions every week? Situations like this-ignorant people thinking that owning a horse ís no different than owning a dog or cat. Horses are ruined every single day by people like you and your daughter.

Im 30. My dad is/was a trainer as well. I ran breeding, barn management and assisted him in training at 16. BUT I was literally born into it and I didn't start training on my own "label" until I was 26.

My advice? You both have a ton to learn before even thinking about having her train. For one, she could lose her amateur card and be royally screwed with breed shows, which is where the money is. Help her get apprenticed to a reputable and winning trainer. That is the way to bust into this shark tank of training.

    You cannot rush horsemanship..

    Commercial enterprise... yes.

Legally she cant enter into a contract or be responsible for any damages Or liabilities.... even if you 'held the paper', so to speak... you're in a deep dark grey place as employment goes.

Around 16 summer camps look for wranglers to hire and some apprenticeships open up.

At 11 she may be able... and she should be working with your animals....under suprvision.

I have a hard time believing this is a real post.

An adult would know that an 11 year old can't really earn money of her own, other than maybe raking yards and washing cars and such.
