Defoe has been built up by the press for some reason throughout his career, yet has never consistently performed well at the highest level. The Champions League regulars in England and abroad were never really interested, and that's indicative of his true level as a good PL journeyman. Nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend he ever really had it as if he was one of Europe's best strikers or anything like that.
