Big black spiders in the NJ area?

I've lived in NJ my whole life and now I'm at college but in a woodsier area. Last year, my roommate and I saw a dead, black spider that was about the size of a nickel inside the student center. The other day my mom came to visit and we saw one outside. I was just wondering because the size was enough to freak me out but I was hoping it isn't poisonous.

There are a number of black spiders like this, but only the black widow is of any concern.

Outdoors, I would just ignore it, and widows don't usually come indoors as they prefer dark quiet corners to human activity.

You can find the black house spider in Jersy, and often webbing widows, but such spiders are quite harmless.

In whole, spiders this size are really not very big, and there are certainly much larger spiders you may find, all harmless too.

I wouldn't worry about the spiders.
