Videos from SD card wont play on desktop pc?

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. I take the sd card from my camera after making a short video, insert the card, it's contents come up but the pc will not play the video. I can download that file to my FB and it will play on FB. How can I get them to play on my pc? Thank you for any help.

    you may need a codec especially if the camera video is 3gp format
