x264 is a flavor of H.264/MPEG encoding. It has some extra features not in the default H.264 encoding. It's the only free software encoding that is BlueRay compliant.

Since x264 doesn't use keyframes fro its refresh sampling, it plays more consistently. This encoding is called Periodic Intra Refresh.

So, if you have x264 available as an encoder, you should use it. Unless the person you're sending it to doesn't have a player that can read that format.

    I hope this helps.
