How can I check a non-family member's military service record.?

Long story short. I am writing a non-fiction book.

In it I have a person whom (the person himself did not tell me, someone else did) was said to be a member of the AVG (Flying Tigers).

How can I confirm that this is true information? He will get his accolades but if not true, I don t want to disseminate incorrect info.

Thanks in advance for the help.

A Flying Tiger would probably be at least 93 years old by now.

The AVG was active from 1941 to 1942. Assuming he was 20 years old at the time would make him over 90 yrs old today.

You can't get the official records, partly because there are no official records. The Flying Tigers were a civilian volunteer group. (at least on paper)

Try the museum, or old newspapers or books.

Try the Flying Tigers museum in Baton Rouge, LA
