Rap & Hip Hop: Give a ranking of Nas's albums from best to worst?

Nas is probably the artist who I've changed my mind about their discography the most since getting into hip hop, so I'm just wondering what y'all are thinking there. If you haven't heard any you can just leave em out, no point just throwing them in there randomly.

BQ: Did the Untitled album's name change affect your opinion on it as a whole?

BQ2: Where does DMX factor into your greatest rappers list?

BQ3: Breaking Atoms by Main Source or 93 Til' Infinity by Souls of Mischief?

BQ4: Buy or Sell: 93 Til' Infinity's title track is a top ten hip hop track.

  • I'm just ranking them based on how much I like them.

    1. God's Son

    2. Life is Good

    3. N!gg3r (I'll explain this below)

    4. Illmatic

    5. The Lost Tapes

    6. It Was Written

    7. Stillmatic

    8. Hip Hop is Dead

    9. I Am...

    10. Street's Disciple

    11. Nastradamus

If we're including collaborations, I'd put Distant Relatives between HHID and I Am..., and we all know where The Firm goes.

BQ1: A little bit - I honestly love the album, but the fact that Nas backed down and decided to change the title bothers me to this day. I always use the original title whenever I'm referring to it, because that's just the right name for the album.

BQ2: I don't have a list, but DMX is certainly one of the best (or was one of the best).

    BQ3: 93 'til Infinity

BQ4: Same as Sportsdude; can't really say where it places but it's a great song nonetheless.

    1. Illmatic (10/10)

    2. The Lost Tapes (9.8/10)

    3. Stillmatic (9.6/10)

    4. Hip Hop Is Dead (9.5/10)

    5. God's Son (9.5/10)

    6. It Was Written (9.3/10)

    7. Life Is Good (8.8/10)

    8. N!gg3r (8.5/10)

    9. I Am... (7.5/10)

    10. Street's Disciple (7/10)

    11. Nastradamus (6.5/10)

BQ1: A little... Nas is black, he can say n!gg@ if he want... I'll always call it N!gg3r like l.e.b.

BQ2: I do not have a concrete list right now, but I think he would have a spot there in 40-50... Not higher.

BQ3: 93 'til Infinity... Close, though...

BQ4: It's almost impossible making a songs list, but I think it would deserve a spot in top 10-15.

    1) Illmatic

    2) Stillmatic

    3) God's son

    4) IWW

    5) The Lost Tapes

    6) Life is Good

    7) Street's Disciple

    8) Untitled

    9) Distant Relatives

    10) Hip Hop is Dead

    11) I Am..

    12) Nastradamus

BQ1: A title of an album doesn't really phase me, it's usually the content that'll sway my opinion on the album.

BQ2: I'm not really sure tbh. He does have some tracks I really love and some tracks I hate. I only really do top tens, maybe top twenties. He is dope though.

BQ3: 93 Til' Infinity definitely. What a debut album for them though.

BQ4: I'm not sure, they're so many contenders for top 10. It's not top for me though.

    1. Life is Good

    2. Lost Tapes

    3. Stillmatic

    4. It Was Written

    5. God's Son

    6. Hip Hop is Dead

    7. Untitled

    8. Life is Good

    9. I Am

    10. Street's Disciple

    11. Nastradamus

B.Q 1 : The name change really didn't effected me that much cause I'm more into content thean in title and the album was dope.

B.Q 2 : Top 30 I often see him as East Coast 2Pac who is more dependent upon the emotional value rather than being complex.

    B.Q 3 : 93 Til' Infinity

    B.Q 4 : Its dope but I don't know if it'll be in my top 10.

    1. Illmatic

    2. It Was Written

    3. Stillmatic

    4. The Lost Tapes

    5. Gods Son

    6. Untitled (Niqqer)

    7. Hip Hop Is Dead

    8. I Am..

    9. Nastradamus (I still don't see how everyone sees this album as wack and a unanimous vote for hia worst album)

    10. Life Is Good

    11. Streets Disciple

Side note: Those last 4 switch spots with eachother occasionally.

BQ1: Nah. The name of an album has nothing to do with my opinion on it overall but the name change does bother me but only for the fact that, as leb said he backed down but overall it has no affect on my opinion of it.

BQ2: Not an exact ranking but Id probably put him somewhere around the 30-35 spot..One of the greatest from the East Coast and one of my personal favorites.

BQ3: That's a great comparison but I have a soft spot for 93 Til Infinity because a family member who passed awhile back played that album quite a bit (Rip to him)

BQ4: As it stands right now, yes because you got me thinking of who it reminds me of but if I took the time to

Source(s): actually break it down and make a songs list than it would probably be in the top 20-30 rather than top 10.

    1.) Illmatic - 10/10

    2.) The Lost Tapes - 9.8/10

    3.) It Was Written - 9.6/10

    4.) Stillmatic - 9.4/10

    5.) Gods Son - 8.5/10

    6.) Life is Good - 7.5/10

    7.) Hip Hop is Dead - 7.4/10

    8.) Untitled - 7.3/10

    9.) I Am... - 7/10

    10.) Streets Disciple - 6.5/10

    11.) Distant Relatives - 6/10

    12.) Nastradamus - 5/10

BQ1: Nahhhh not at all lol. I mean when the album came out, I was 9/10 and didn't even know who he was at the time so I didn't know what the controversy was like.

BQ2: Probably in the top 75. Not completely sure, though.

BQ3: Good comparison but I think I'll go with 93 Til Infinity, that album goes hard af

BQ4: Rent. There are so many hip hop tracks that it's hard to put certain tracks in a specific spot.

Not too late for an answer, is it?

Illmatic > The Lost Tapes > Stillmatic > It Was Written > Hip Hop is Dead > Street's Disciple > God's Son > Untitled > Life is Good > I Am... > Nastradamus

BQ: No, I still got what Nas was trying to do with the album.

    BQ2: He doesn't really.

BQ3: Breaking Atoms. That's prime Extra P right there.

BQ4: I don't know. Not for me personally, but I wouldn't object to seeing it in a list like that.

Bq1: No...because that sh*t would of backfired when you would of had the eventual whiteboy go into a Best Buy looking to buy "N*gger".....so i'm ok with the change...

    BQ2: Top 25 Definitely....Maybe top 20....

BQ3:...Now you know i'm going with Breaking Atoms.....i loved 93' and all but....C'mon now....

    BQ4: Naaaah....thats a hard call right there...
