Not personally. I was a physics major and LGBT studies wasn't relevant to my course of study, but writing a research paper is pretty much the same no matter what your subject.
1. Decide what you want to write about in connection with the topic.
2. Go find as many supporting sources as possible.
3. Find a handful of opposing sources and look up arguments as to why they are wrong.
4. As artfully as possible, repackage all this information and turn it in.

Pull up google scholar and there will be many academic articles about this you can find. Read a few as a starting point and go from there

I have not but i think looking at the stonewall riots and homosexuality as a mental illness would be a great way to start off.
