HTML is the HyperText Markup Language used to mark documents to be presented in a web browser.

HTML5 is the latest implementation of HTML and ties together HTML, CSS and Javascript to meet the needs of current web usage.

XHTML is an Extensible HTML which is derived from XML (Extensible Markup Language) and, before HTML5, had a tighter definition of the markup language as set by SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language)
