WHY IN THE WORLD would city officials let the Chargers leave San Diego?
I will admit that I am having a hard time convincing my fellow Charger fans NOT to worry about the team moving to Los Angeles to share a stadium with the Raiders! Never before has a move seemed more possible than it is today. And with Rivers already saying he will NOT renew his contract with the Chargers if they leave, it makes 2016 look even more dismal!
So what is the problem with city officials in San Diego? Do they not understand how much revenue a new stadium in downtown would bring to the city? Every hotel, every restaurant, every bar, and every parking lot will be PACKED the entire weekend whenever there is a game. We're talking thousands of jobs and tens of millions in revenue. Not to mention the revenue generated if and when San Diego is chosen to host another Super Bowl! So why would the City Of San Diego allow the Chargers to leave San Diego without a fight?

I think the big problem is that most government offices whether they be state or city offices are in big financial debt. San Diego probably doesn't have the money to build one. And moving to LA wouldn't necessarily be very cheap for the Chargers. Not to mention that the Rams might beat them to the punch.
You're also for the most part talking temporary jobs to build the stadium, not long term jobs.

Hmm sounds good but it will take many years
to pay off the stadium.
Unless a person comes up with about $500 -$750 MILLIOIN the tax payers of San Diego will be on the hook
for the cost to build it

The Chargers have been trying to get a stadium for almost 15 years but the city chose to build a new ballpark for the Padres, instead. Why should they stick around after being insulted like that?

They don't care about the revenue generated for 8 home games a year. But, if the stadium is built and owned by a private entity, they will benefit from property taxes on the stadium as well as all of the McMansions the players will build to live nearby. That's where all of the financial benefit lies.

Building new stadiums cost cities money
Taxes are usually raised to pay for it, how is that fair to people who care nothing about sports
If a team wants a new stadium, let the owned pay for it
In reality new stadiums do not help the local economy, hosting a SB does not pay back the increase in taxes

However much revenue you think the city would bring in, it's never enough to offset the cost to taxpayers.
There is intrinsic value in having a team. You can argue that aspect, but you can't on a financial level.

I seriously doubt that the thousands of people hired by local restaurants, bars, hotels, and other local businesses are going to care if tax dollars (most of which are paid by the top 5%) are used to build a billion dollar stadium.

The city doesn't own the team. The owner can do whatever he wants. If you don't like it, get investors together and try to get your own NFL franchise.
