Teaching a horse to pivot and other showmanship tips?!?

im having a hard time to teach my horse to pivot for showmanship classes. My horse knows how to walk, trot, back, set up, for showmanship and he does this all very well but I cannot figure out how to get him to pivot or teach him. I've tried reading but nothing seems to work, hopefully some one might know a way to try and teach him!

Just go very slowly. Walk him, trot him. halt. Keep the line in the same hand and turn to him. Start walking towards his throatlatch. At home I'll use a crop, not to smack him, but to reach over and tap the shoulder so he moves over. Get 2 or 3 steps of a pivot and praise. Do this a few times. Slowly build up to a half circle over a few days or a week. Once they're that far they usually figure it out. I also have another cue that helps in the show ring. I exhale long and slow when I turn to face him. That's like a pre-cue that I'm going to start asking for the pivot.

I have the same problem but my 4h leader taught to pinch the bottom part of his neck. On the side and walk like you would do if he were doing it. It pinches a nerve or something and makes them want to turn.
