In tv series, the women are from Asgard, so why they do not identify themselves as goddesses?

It is all make believe. If Asgard is more than just the realm of the Norse gods, than more than just deities would live there, right? They are called 'witches' because they have magical powers and the original writer of the book decided that Witches of East End sounded better than Goddesses of East End.
