If a person is a racist, bigot, or Nazi, or an atheist, is s/he mentally ill?

No they are not mentally ill, they are just making bad choices.

I do respect other people's beliefs. I have my own beliefs and everyone has different beliefs so I can't control them. I respect everyone and I do not judge, so I do not have a problem with atheists.

Racists, bigots, nazis are not bad people. They are just making horrible and wrong choices.

These people are not mentally ill, they just feel that these choices are the right ones, and are continuing to live by it.

Just because they are doing something that is not right, doesn't mean they are ill.

Racism and bigotry come partly from the humans in built prejudice (prejudgement). There is nothing mentally ill in this (a quick study of evolution and the advantages of prejudgment in increasing ones survival chances will explain why we have it). However Racism and bigotry also involve acting on such judgements. This is normally because they have been ingrained in a persons subconscious for many years and are thus hard to break. Additionally there views are often held by a group and the humans natural desire to conform will cause people to hold views despite disagreeing with them simply because everyone else does. At its core Nazism is a patriotic movement bought about by a desire to make ones people and thus ones country strong (abet by removing everyone who is undesirable). Nazism has its advantages, everyone works towards the same goal and everyone is driven to out of that desire for strength. The unfortunate thing is that people don't notice the negative impacts of nazism until its to late. Additionally, due to how authoritarian nazism is people can easily conform to it. Atheism is simply the lack of belief in a God, nothing mentally ill in suspending belief until adequate evidence is presented.

Humans are very flawed. We like to think that we are in complete control of ourselves but the truth is much the opposite. Racists, bigots and nazis are just as sane minded than you or I and we must remember that, lest we become like them
