Either from a dealer, or between two, private parties.

When you buy directly from an FFL dealer there is usually no charge but if you buy a gun on line, say from Buds Gun shop, and have it transferred to your FFL dealer, they will charge anywhere from 15 to 35 dollars for the background check and transfer.

The background check, paper work, and handling is all included in the charge the FFL dealer puts on the transfer. I have heard of transfers for as little as $25.00, and as high as $75.00.

It depends on your state. Dealer federal check is usually free in most jurisdictions. I imagine that the cost is nominal for private transfers. Check to see if transfers require paperwork in your state.

That depends on your state and were you're getting the weapon from(who's doing the backround check).
Don't let the wanna be "gun dealers" on this site fool you. It is not free.
