The scientific is kinda weird. It has to do with Newtonian physics. Firstly, when an object collides with another object, the object that is hit applies it s own force to the thing that hits it. So when the IPAD hits the wood floor, the wood floor applies a responding force to the IPAD, but the wood floor has a certain amount of give so that the IPAD is cushioned a bit and doesn t stop suddenly.

The concrete floor is more dense and has much less give than wood, so the concrete doesn t give, it applies its force immediately and the sudden change in movement and the applied force is what breaks the IPAD, because the IPAD can t handle the responding force when it hits the ground.
