How to say...?

I've been depressed and had suicidal thoughts for a while now. I want to tell one of my closest friends but putting on a smile is soooo much easier. What do I say? How do I say it? When do I say it? How do I know if she'll take me seriously? Can I just email some therapist and talk to them instead? No one knows and I feel like I'll blow my cap if I don't get someone to tell.

Firstly, make sure you trust your friend with what you want to tell her. If she doesn't take you seriously, keep trying to reach out. There will be someone who WILL take it seriously. You could always go to a trusted adult or family member if needed. You should definitely tell someone because there is only so much a person can take. It sounds like you are almost at your breaking point. Unfortunately, there is no script on what to say to someone about depression and suicidal thoughts. The best way to tell her is to just take a deep breath and explain how you've been feeling lately, and that you need a friend to be there for you, love you, and support you through this difficult time. Make sure you talk to her in a comfortable place. You can ask her if you can discuss personal problems, and try to make a time and place that works for the both of you. I hope this helped some--PLEASE don't give up! Stay strong!! :)
