My iPod touch 4th gen won't turn on unless plugged in?

So I haven't used my iPod touch 4th generation in quite awhile. I charged it bc I was dead after neglected use. When it was done charging, I took it off its charger and it almost immediately shut down. It does this every time I'm not charging it. It works perfectly when it's charging, but when the charger's off it turns off completely.

    There s something wrong with the battery, as it is plugged in, the charger works as a power source but without the charger, it dies, as the battery is broken.
