Do I have to give a $10,000 deposit to become a travel agent at a travel agency in Ontario ?

    Yes you do. If you want to be a legal registered travel agent, the government of Ontario will require it to ensure you aren't setting up a fly by night agency. They want a guarantee they can find you if something goes wrong.

    You have to pay a $3,000 fee to apply. Then you have to supply a secured $10,000 deposit which is refundable after 2 years if you have a clean record. You have to file 2 consecutive years worth of paperwork that proves you comply with all regulations. If you violate them, then you don't get the deposit back. If you are legit, then you get your money back.
