Can being sick permanently change your voice?

I'm really raspy after several days of a sore throat.

It depends on the cause of your laryngeal problems. If it is a case of continuing tonsillitis/adenoid problem, then it can, it can also affect your voice if the culprit is an untreated allergy or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

However, if it is a common cold, then it should not cause any permanent damage.

No, not in your case. You'll be absolutely fine. Just rest up and drink lots of fluid. It could affect a person's voice, but only in extremely rare cases such as throat cancer. You are perfectly fine though, so don't worry! :)

    No. Not permanently.
