I agree with you 100%.. The media has made the world so superficial and fake... And we're bombarded by it constantly. What you're saying is true. Thousands of young people reject themselves and sacrifice their individuality to take on what they think is normal according to society - the supposed perfect life. But it doesn't exist because this is the real world. As a teenager, it annoys me incredibly much when my friends feel uncomfortable with themselves- only because their image of a normal person is some photoshopped, surgically altered, glamorized and overrated celebrity who plays a girl that everyone loves in a TV show. And what pisses me off even more, is that morality doesn't exist in the media and it projects a life where people can do whatever the hell they want. And people are stupid enough to follow it thinking that there aren't consequences. When I look at a model strutting down a runway, I want to gag. Even the living dead looks better than them, yet so many girls want to go to extremes to look like them. How can being nothing but a clothing hanger without an identity seem appealing?? A few days back I was watching a TV program about the best plastic surgeries on celebs. I was disgusted to see that people comment on the celebrities saying **** like, "after the surgery, she got the features she was SUPPOSED to be born with". Shocking. Its like people are brainwashed into thinking that our unique features that are natural and God-given are faults. How can something as small as the shape of your eyes be seen as a fault when you are some plastic-*** skeleton with ridiculously huge silicon boobs, a fake tan, and bleached blonde hair?? THAT is disgusting. In advertising, the media works on people psychologically so that they determine their worth and sense of achievement on what they can buy. (think status, and how advertising pushes the idea that if you buy eg. that car, you will have a better life and people will respect you more.) Basically, the reason why the media does this is MONEY- a huge necessary evil in this world. And people's individuality and sense of reality suffer as a result. Perhaps motivational speakers should visit schools to make teenagers aware of the reality of this world and provide them with thought-provoking topics to emphasize individual thinking and self expression. Or schools should give more recognition to achievements that reflect this type of thinking and reasoning. I'm thankful that you see things for what they are. ~Purpl3fir3

AVR is not an industry standard acronym, I see no use of the term in advertising, it might be something that particular company invented.
