Question about driving in CA?

I am turning 16 in 2 weeks and I don t have my permit. I am on track to get my permit in a couple days. My Dad believes that once I turn 16 and I have actually been driving on the road with an instructor and I get my permit that I don t have to wait 6 months to drive and I can take my licence test to get my license. Is this true or must I have 6 months of experience before being able to take my driving test?

With a provisional learner's permit in your possession, it’s illegal for you to drive alone at any time. If you do drive, a parent, guardian, spouse, or adult 25 years old or older who has a valid CA driver’s license must be with you and seated close enough to take control of the vehicle if necessary.

Before you can take your DMV driving test to obtain your provisional license, you’ll need to:

Complete 6 hours of driver’s training.

Complete an additional 50 hours of behind-the-wheel driving practice.

Hold your learner’s permit for at least 6 months.

    Complete a driver’s education program.
