Do you have a bulky pushchair and a lightweight buggy, when do you use the buggy?

A strange question I know but I was going to buy a buggy and my husband asked if the big expensive pushchair will now be redundant so I said no we'd use both. So he said if we have a pushchair then when would we use the buggy as everything we would use a buggy for we could use the pushchair..... When do you use yours, maybe it's use has changed over time?

You will need both. I am an American and I also think you call the pushchair what we call a stroller. I usually would use the stroller when walking the baby around the neighborhood or if we went to a restaurant for him to sleep in while we ate (yes my babies where quiet and rarely cried)...and for other longer outings where taking the heavier one out was for longer outings so worth the effort. The lighter one, I used for quicker outings are shorter trips because it is easier to whip out (but not as good for the baby for long walks and all day affairs and the restaurant or visiting someone for the day. It gives the baby a nice surface to sleep on.

I'm from the U.S. and I'm assuming the same translation as Jedadiah's momma. We used the full-size strollers when the kids were so little that we had to clip in their carseat, and also for two kids at a time when we upgraded to a 2-person stroller, and when we needed the storage space underneath. We used the lightweight umbrella stroller for everything else -- they're far easier to get around.

I'd use the buggy when taking public transport (subway) because I can carry it up/down stairs by myself. It's also easier to take along when taking the bus. Double deckers only have room for one stroller so if you use a buggy, you can collapse it and get on even if there is already a stroller on the bus.

  • Well I am from America, and I believe you are talking about what we call strollers and umbrella strollers (the umbrella strollers are much lighter and smaller)... Both come in handy. The umbrella strollers are handy for day trips where you will be packing a lot of things, or maneuvering in and out of buildings. But the stroller is good for when you are going on a normal walk or want a lot of storage space...
