How Do I use Medi-Cal? I haven't been to a doctor in 14 years, since I was a child. I'm 25 and I am not sure how to see a doctor?

I have never been through the system of health insurance. When I was young, my mother did everything. I really need to get my eyes checked and get a general health check up. I have medi-cal which was issued to me yesterday, and I haven't been to the doctor in 14 years. Can someone help me with their experience? Thanks

There are lots of place (even Walmart) where you can get your eyes checked for roughly $50 without using insurance, which might be easier than trying to use Medi-Cal.

If you really want to use Medi-Cal, then you have to find a doctor that accepts Medi-Cal. Call them, make an appointment, and make sure to show up on time.

You have to know if you have straight Medi-Cal with white and blue card or a managed care plan with a second I.D. Call your case worker and ask. If you have straight Medi-Cal you have to find a doctor who takes it and that is usually a county clinic, a hospital walk-in clinic, medical school outpatient clinic. Otherwise, if you are in a managed care plan you would receive something in the mail listing the providers who take the plan.
