turkish airline electronic visa issue. help please.?

So a friend of mine has travelled to turkey from the uk .we got the visa through their website and it was successful. He did the check in at airport in UK.
When he arrives at istanbul airport they said the visa should have been obtained directly from the embassy in London. And they are now returning him to UK.
They say because you have "travel document "( uk issued) and not the British passport, you should have got your visa through embassy not online.
Please let me who can I contact about this issue and if we could get any money back as it was the airport in istanbul who returned my friend back to UK.
I believed the airline should have told us before the departure even they checked us in .
Please help

The Airport staff have nothing to do with it. The Airline has nothing to do with it.
The government of Turkey decides who can enter.
The Immigration Official at the Airport has Final say
Even with a correct visa the Officer has to say YES or NO when you present it.
This time he said no. The Airline does not owe you anything. The Airline returns you back to where you started.
The Airline staff at the check in counter are not IMMIGRATION staff. They check to see if you have the documents . They do not decide if you can Enter Turkey just the Airplane.

Your friend should not have made wrong statements during the e-visa application process.
If he would have truthfully answered the question about his travel document as "alien's passport" instead of "ordinary passport" he would have received the result:

Don't blame others for his own fault.
