Actually I'm now pretty skilled now at riding because I DIDN'T lose my nerve. When I was 12 (EONs ago), I borrowed my friend's bike after he convinced me that I need to learn how to ride. The very first time I got on, I was too stupid to stay on the sidewalk, so I pedaled into the street without paying any attention & immediately got hit by a car. I was knocked completely off of the bike, but fortunately, because the car wasn't going fast at all, there was no damage done to the car, my friend's bike OR me. To make a long story short, I was a bit shaken up, but I made the decision right then & there that I was going to get good at riding, & I got so good that a few weeks later my foster mom bought me my own bike.

It is dangerous to use the bike lane and dangerous for bikes to ride with traffic.I cyclist was killed last year by being run over by a car in the early morning. I know someone else who was struck by a car and broke their leg. I would never ride in traffic. These days people are distracted by cell phones as well as traffic is heavier with population growth. The best place to ride bikes is in a biking trail or a low traffic residential neighborhood and then you should have a bell to warn walkers or find a trail that is for bikers only.

You just probably got traumatized. Yes! Me and my friend got into a car accident. She was so shaken up and was crying so much while I tried to keep it all in. I thought I was okay but I would freak out whenever I got in a car anytime after that. Over time I got over it though. I'm not that scared now so don't worry, I'm sure you will get over it too.

Yes, this has happened to me while biking. I nearly got hit by a car or two while out on long bike rides. You just need to take your time, be patient, think of ways to make it safer.
