XBOX 1 halo masterchief?

XBOX 1 question regarding Halo: Have just started playing halo masterchief games and am confused. Each time I am on a level and am prompted to press X to use terminal (there is a terminal that is available eg halo 1 level 1, monitor indicates there is a message and asks to press x for message). When X is pressed, the console proceeds to go to the halo channel, plays some sort of video, then returns to the game. Is this supposed to happen, or should there be some sort of acknowledgement that the keyboard has been accessed. this is frustrating and XBOX help desk hasn't helped worth a flip. please help. thanks
