Can I mount a 558 gb harddrive into a MacBook Air with 256 potential storage?

This is very important

I need to know if this can be done; if these are compatible and will allow a user to access information

    If you mean an actual spinning hard drive then no. The Air uses Flash storage (SSD) and does not have room for a hard drive. Depending on which version of Air you have you may be able to upgrade the storage but it is not recommended if you do not know what you are doing. You can use an external hard drive connected to the Air or mount an internal drive in a caddy and use that externally.
