Are FAO coins real? Where are they minted?

    Real coins, struck by each individual country that participated in the program begun in 1968. They were legal tender at the time they were issued (though many are no longer legal tender with some of those currencies since devalued or made obsolete) - but few were spent as currency because they were sold for well over face value to fund FAO work.

    Curtis is mostly correct, however some issues were minted for and released into circulation, as well as FAO sales,

    ps. the original issue books are pretty pricy now, as most were broken up for the silver
