Why can't I figure out how to draw people?

So I've been drawing for probably 5 years and seriously for 3 of those. If you asked me to draw anything like an animal or graffiti or eye I could do it very well. But ask me to draw a landscape or a person I struggle. I could do a landscape with time but for the past year I've been trying to draw people. Faces poses hands feet. But I can never get it! I really want to draw fairies and scenes and steam punk people but I can't figure it out. What can I do please help! Someone wants a fairy picture but I can't figure out people!

Do you draw from references or try to work from your imagination?

The best way to draw people is to actually draw people, that is, people who are there in front of you. Even if it is simple gesture drawings of people you can see in a park walking past or a longer term drawing of friends or relatives sitting for you.

If you cannot get people to pose for you you could take pictures of yourself and draw from photographs (not always the best reference since cameras distort and flatten).

If you start with a line indicating a spine a box for the hips, an oval sphere for the chest and head, circles for the major joints, so you are building up a skeleton, you will then be in a position to start adding flesh to the bones.

It is all about drawing what you see – not what you think should be there.

Peace... God will tell all the people on the day of judgement to put a soul into the picture, and the individual wont be able to on day of judgement... Yes they cannot draw pictures of people or animals, but can for anything else. Peace EDIT: if they draw picture of any animal or being, then it is bad for them...people do contradict themselves because they do not see the true meaning behind the drawings. Also they may not draw it in art because they lazy and dont want to..

Think 'bone structure' under the skin. Faces rely on where the bones are, what areas are shaded when the light comes from different areas, and look at proportion. There are online proportion charts for faces. It shows that the op of where the ear attaches is in a horizontal line from the eyes. The mouth goes as wide as the center of the eyes above them (vertical line). The bottom of the nose is midway from the eyes to the bottom of the chin.
