how far is Russia from Alaska? could you boat there?

I seen on a map that to the left of Alaska is Russia

    The Bering Straight, the body of water separating Alaska and the US, is 55 miles wide at that point. During most winters, the ice is solid enough here for you to walk across.

    If you include the islands of Little Diomede (US) and Big Diomede (Russia) the two countries are only 2.5 miles apart. Of course, you have to get to and from each island.

    The water is usually pretty rough in this part of the world. I wouldn't want to cross in too small a boat and there isn't much to do when you get to the other side either! You have a LONG way to go before you are really in any part of the US or Russia where you could do much of anything.

    55 - 60 miles away. You could row your boat there, but then they'd get you for crossing the water boarder
