So I have had a history of depression and having moved out while trying to maintain ontop of my studies has pushed me to the edge. I havent slept for 2 days straight (not from lack of trying) so I am seeking help from my universities psychological services. They recommend I see a GP before my appointment and when I tell this to my GP he laughs at me. He then gives me some bullshit referral to a private hospital where they can evaluate my mental condition (for a large fee) refusing to give advice on the matter...

GP's don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to mental health. They're merely pill-pushers. I don't know where you live or if you have insurance, but if you are in college, most schools typically have their own counseling center. If yours does, let them evaluate you. If they don't, look for a list of free or sliding-scale counseling clinics in your area.
