Venice is just a fantastic cliché, more romantic, more lovely and more astonishing than you can expect. No matter how many pictures or shows you may have seen, it's however a jaw-dropping experience seeing Venice's canals and palaces for the first time and that you would do with the help of this page hotelbye . Certainly Venice's best-known church and one of the very most easily recognized on the planet is St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco). This basilica was actually the Doge's individual chapel, decorated with Byzantine artwork secrets that are part of the booty cut back by Venetian ships after the drop of Constantinople. The gold-backed mosaic photographs above the gates on the façade just touch at the mosaic beauty inside, wherever 4,240 square yards of silver mosaics cover the walls. So, the St. Mark`s Basilica is really a place worth visited.

I lived near Venice for 13+ years and visited frequently. There's a lot to see in Venice. Just walking around enjoying the art and architecture is good, but specific interesting places include Piazza San Marco with the Doge's Palace, St Mark's Basillica, the Correr museum, Florian's and Quadri (coffee and pastry). Go up in the bell tower for the view. See the Bridge of Sighs between the Doges Palace and the prison.

Take the vaporetto to Murano to see the glass factories and Burano for the houses and lace. Or to the Lido for a day at the beach. Or take a gondola ride through the canals.

Visit the art galleries - the Guggenheim, the Accademia, or shops like the Marcus gallery (glass). The Biennale runs in odd numbered years - it's the oldest art show in the world. The main sites are at the public garden and at the Arsenale, but there are exhibits spread all over the city. Visit the old churches - a lot of them have impressive art work (for example, the Basillica della Salute).

If you run across Vizio Virtu, they make excellent artisan chocolate and gelato. http://www.viziovirtu.com/

Depending on exactly when you visit, there are interesting festivals. Il Redentore is coming up in July (18th & 19t) and the Historic Regatta is on the first Sunday in September.

Walk around, explore: get up early if you want to visit muséums, there are line-up. Buy food and drinks before going there: all is quite expensive there: Venice is a tourist trap, so be carfeul.

wherever you go in Venice it'll be great because it's a unique city. it is also veeeery expensive, so you should buy food and drinks in supermarkets and then take them with you. and, of course, remember to wear the most comfortable shoes you have.
