Jehovah's Witness question: Do you consider Isaiah 10 to be about someone other than Jesus?
For a child[b] is born to us, a son is given to us;
upon his shoulder dominion rests.
They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero,
Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.
Just wondering why Jesus would be called by these names? Thank you for your time.
Thank your for clarifying the chapter...
Why would Jesus be called "Eternal Father" and "Mighty God" if he is only the son of God?
So if I understand the Jehovah's Witness position Jesus is just "a god" like Satan or any of us could be considered but, he is still considered "Eternal Father" and "Mighty God" according to Isaiah? If yes is the answer then that's fine. No argument or belittling here; just trying to understand. Thank you for your time.

JWs like to ignore certain bible verses in order to create and support doctrine from other verses. This means one of the four things...
1) God is kind of confused.
2) God's word is kind of confused
3) We don't understand
4) The doctrine is wrong.
God was pretty clear in Isaiah "Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me" That's pretty straightforward except of course if you're a JW and you see the bible saying Jesus is a "Mighty God" and "a god", etc.
You see the bible only describes two kinds of gods... 1) The True God 2) False Gods which begs this question .. which is Jesus?
Of course JWs will jump to various verses in the bible that talks about other gods, the god of this world, etc but that kind of makes things worse. All these gods are false gods leaving only the one true God and Jesus left without a god designation.
Furthermore Ga 4:8 says "Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods." In other words things look like gods but aren't... i.e. false gods. and to this "There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords." --- "so called". Again even though there are physical entities such as the devil and a golden calf such things are only gods in the minds of men. They are not real. They are fake, imagined, illusions, etc.
So we're still left with the question... What kind of god is Jesus?

Oscar is right, it's Isaiah 9:6 and even the JW bible says this 6 For a child has been born to us,+ A son has been given to us; And the rulership* will rest on his shoulder.+ His name will be called Wonderful Counselor,+ Mighty God,+ Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Source(s): Again, from "their" bible: 1 In the beginning was the Word,+ and the Word was with God,+ and the Word was a god.* So there's a huge contradiction. Jesus can't be a "Mighty God" and just "a god" which is why it's foolishness to deny that Jesus is God. - TeeMLv 76 years ago
1st if Adam hadn't sinned, he would have been our 'Eternal Father' since we all gained life through him.
Since Adam did sin, Jesus by his death, bought us back and gave us eternal life, thus becoming our "Eternal Father"
Moses is called 'God' to Pharaoh, by Jehovah. Ex 7:1
The human judges of Israel are called gods, by Jehovah Ps 82:6
The angel of Jehovah is called God by Samson's father Manoah Judges 13:22
Why is it capitalized in Isa 9? because in English we capitalize titles. Making it proper English, and not giving Jesus something greater than what Isaiah says.

Prepare for some interesting mental somersaults as JWs try to say Jesus is a god but not the god, a Mighty God but not the only true God, not a false god like all gods that aren't the true god but still a god well kind of sort of we think maybe - glad they're not confused and can explain it clearly!

If you mean Isaiah 9:6 then JWs believe this verse is about Jesus.

Isaiah 9:6 [NWT]:
"For a child has been born to us, A son has been given to us; And the rulership will rest on his shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace."
As has been said, that refers to Jesus, as king of God's kingdom.
"Why would Jesus be called "Eternal Father" and "Mighty God" if he is only the son of God?"
Isaiah 9:7 [NWT]:
"To the increase of his rulership And to peace, there will be no end, On the throne of David and on his kingdom In order to establish it firmly and to sustain it Through justice and righteousness, From now on and forever. The zeal of Jehovah of armies will do this."
What does "To the increase of his rulership And to peace, there will be no end" and "From now on and forever" signify to you?
Even when 1 Corinthians 15:28 informs us:
"But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone,"
does that end Jesus' role toward humankind?
Note what Hebrews 6:20 states about Jesus:
"where a forerunner has entered in our behalf, Jesus, who has become a high priest in the manner of Mel·chizʹe·dek forever."
He can do so only if he lives eternally, and in that role as High Priest he is like a father to all who desire to serve his God [see John 20:17], benevolently helping all those who have been judged as suitable for everlasting life to maintain their loving obedience to their creator, just as he himself has done for aeons of time.
He is a "Mighty God" in that his Father has granted to him special honor and authority, something that he has granted to no one else. [Heb.1:9] What is that honor and authority?
For one, God grants authority to Jesus as judge of humankind [John 5:22,23] in the role he gives him described at Daniel 2:44 and 7:13,14:
“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever,"
"I kept watching in the visions of the night, and look! with the clouds of the heavens, someone like a son of man [Jesus] was coming; and he gained access to the Ancient of Days, [God] and they brought him up close before that One. 14 And to him there were given rulership, honor, and a kingdom, that the peoples, nations, and language groups should all serve him. His rulership is an everlasting rulership that will not pass away, and his kingdom will not be destroyed."
Yes, as king of God's kingdom, Jesus will crush all earthly rulerships [kingdoms and governments] and that kingdom will stand in their stead. He will rule over a new earth of righteousness [2 Pet.3:13]. These actions will cause his Father to rightly afford him the title "Mighty God," just as was prophesied in Isaiah.
