My dog acts up while crossing the street.?

I have a year old Samoyed. While walking, she is usually very good (no pulling, sits when commanded). However SOMETIMES when we cross a main street she will become excited and start jumping at me, biting the leash (including the part I am holding onto), barking, etc. She is also been known to act this way after she gets attention from someone she knows/likes, the person is already house or two away. She doesn't always do it, but it is frustrating when trying to cross a busy street.

Update:

Update: While waiting for cars to pass I make her sit which seems to make her more excited the moment I say "Let's Go" to cross.

I use the command Behave. which if she doesn't respond I will hold her mouth and nose in my hand, look her in the eye and say it more sternly (which 90% of the time she does stop and acts normal, a second time always works) however hard for me to do that when there are cars waiting on both sides.

She's getting anxious and overstimulated, but this is an important skill for your dog to master.

Teach the command "off" or "down" all the time. Make it clear to her that it is never OK to jump up on you unless you invite her.

Practice a street crossing procedure where you tell her to "wait" and expect her body language to be very calm and quiet before you cross. Visualize yourselves walking smoothly across the street, and then do it. Lead her very calmly across the street. Be sure your body language is calm and confident - without tension on the leash - as you cross. Keep your head up and keep moving forward at a steady pace. Once you're across, praise her.

Start practicing on a side street with no traffic. Even if she walks fine here normally, practice until she knows the drill: - Wait, Quiet, Walk Forward, Praise.

Gradually build up to more busy streets, only crossing main streets when you're sure she is ready.

Same goes for the "tantrum" when someone she likes is walking away. Turn her away from the person and make her sit or stand (wait) until her body language quiets and she tunes back in to you.

    Remember: Practice makes permanent!

Yet, you have never had that "come to Jesus" talk, yes? Right when it first starts to show the inclination to start acting this way, give it a HARD and fast correction with the choker or prong collar you have on its neck and make it memorable enough to have the BS stop IMMEDIATELY as well as remember it in the future, if it ever decides to act like this again.

Crossing the street, cars all over, is NOT the place nor time to act like an idiot, correct hard and continue living.
