Constipation advice needed. It affects someone in my family. How can I get that person to relieve constipation woes?

If she feels that fasting for 3 days + (no food or water) will do the trick. That it will make the digestive system relax. I think its wrong.

She constantly thinks that drinking more will be counterproductive (feeling water sensations to the head) and that walking will make her dehydrated.

Then I would say you just need more fiber and keep drinking fluids (water) but she keeps refusing to believe me.

She doesn't believe in taking laxatives. So that's been ruled out for now.

She's just suffering from abdominal bloating and cramping and uncomfortable movements.

The doctor believes she doesn't have constipation and just wants her to gain weight (another issue due to the fact she keeps fasting which made her BMI drop) by eating "unhealthy" temporarily to gain some weight. He encouraged her to eat dark chocolates, milkshakes, things with higher calories/fat in it. She has been eating a lot of higher fat foods to gain some weight and it has been working for that issue but not her constipation issue.

So I feel that there's 2 issues here. The dietary plans for both issues collide. What to do?

She needs to take a laxative if she likes it or not. Do you realize how sick a person can get from constipation, horribly so. Also, if it's often she is likely to get hemorrhoids which are very painful. She needs to eat properly and on a schedule. She needs to eat a lot of fibre. Perhaps she should have two bowls of Raisin Bran daily. Three foods that really bong you up are cheese, bananas and boiled eggs. She should drink a small glass of 100% prune juice as soon as she gets up in the morning. If she does all these, she may not have to rely on laxatives..........plus, she needs to drink a lot of water.

Both her and her doctor have it wrong, while fasting is okay, without water it is dangerous.

Exercise with moderate water drinking will help with her problem.

Higher calories from fat will probably not help, it is carbs that put on weight (I am on a low carb high fat diet and am losing weight) a lack of fiber does cause constipation.

My diet which is mainly salads with egg tuna cheese chicken, has stopped the bloating I used to have, and my bowel movements are much more regular.
