Why is my malamute ALWAYS mistaken for a Husky? Even after I tell them it's a Malamute. It does not bother me. it is simply a question.?

(Touché on the misspelled Malamute)

Sadly, most people can barely tell a German shepherd from a Poodle. When you get to two dogs that look in any way similar, they just think it is the one they are most familiar with even if they are only extremely slightly familiar with it. A person I know has had his dogs mistaken for Labs, German shepherds, Airedales, and Collies. They are none of those breeds and don't look like them. Pity the people with German pinschers who are constantly asked if they are Dobermans. Get yourself some hats or shirts or jackets or something with MALAMUTE DOGS ARE GREAT (or whatever) in very LARGE letters. Then, hopefully, some of the people you come across can read.

People don't know/don't care but envision themselves experts, and must prove this by sharing their "knowledge and wisdom" with you. Our last dog was a rescue greyhound - ex track dog and perfect weight. Had many people either ask me if the dog was sick since she was so underweight (really???) or give me a lecture on why I was underfeeding my dog :/ Prior to that we had a black and silver GSD - working line dog from a long line of Schutzhund champions - all GSD. And the experts insisted on asking what she was mixed with as everyone knows that GSD's are not black.

My point? Everyone's an expert, just ask them :/ At least they have your dog in the right sort of family and recognize it's a northern sled dog type. Just smile and nod your head, because they aren't listening anyway.

People aren't as familiar with Malamutes and the breeds look very similar.

Not everyone is an expert on dog breeds. My Rat Terrier is mistaken for a Jack Russell all the time.

Most people don't visually know the difference.

Someone was walking a Great Dane on our street, I said 'nice looking Dane' (he was a beautiful gray). She said 'thanks! People keep calling him a greyhound!'
