What does Queer mean in LGBTQ? Read info?

What does queer means in LGBTQ? I read somewhere that queer means opposite of straight.

But I still don't get it, does it mean gay/lesbian? Or does it have some other meaning?

Please explain

Hi! The Q in the LGBTQIAP acronym doesn't stand for Queer- it stands for Questioning: That's anyone who is unsure about their gender or sexual orientation, but doesn't know quite how they identify- anyone who knows they're something other than cisgender and heterosexual, but isn't sure what that something is!

Queer is a word the community has reclaimed to mean anyone who is part of the LGBTQIAP acronym. Anyone who isn't cis and hetero is queer- no matter how else they identify. It means it's a super general word- an umbrella term, lots of people identify as queer if their sexuality or gender orientation doesn't fit one of the words we have already- or if their sexuality or gender orientation is complicated or fluid! So to one person, it totally means gay or lesbian. To someone else who uses it, it means they don't fit the gender binary! It's unique to the individual, and that's super great- it means there's less of the whole 'fitting into a box' thing, if someone isn't cool with tiny boxes and labels!

The rest of the acronym stands for: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic (and subdivisions), Pansexual.

Have no idea. Because lesbian and gay both mean what used to be called "queer". Gay is a relatively new term from the last 30 or 40 years.

I think that a Queer is someone who identifies themselves as a part of the LGBT and identifies as someone who isn't straight/heterosexual. Historically, it used to mean homosexual... So I'm not sure

Queer is an umbrella term for LGBT. It basically means anybody who is not heterosexual or cisgender.
