Cost of Solar Energy?

Update:

We am looking at installing Solar in our house in SOCAL, but the big question we have is HOW MUCH? Ok so you are eventually saving money on the monthly electric bill but you have to buy or lease the panels so doesn't it come out even to what you are paying now? Do you have to qualify to lease or buy the panels? So lets say I am averaging $250 a mth& after installing the panels pay $100 but I have to pay additional bill of leasing buying the panels of $150 per months so to be it evens out yes?

Ever wonder why more people don't? It is because it cost more up front as well as over the long term.

The equipment doesn't last forever. It has to be repaired and replaced at your expense. Also you have to have backup power if the sun doesn't shine enough.

Just because you can doesn't mean it is completive. But hey if you have the money and want to waste it in the name of environmentalism. Knock yourself out, it is your money to waste.

The math is not difficult at all. An installation's cost depends on many factors such as the total number of panels, other required equipment and the labor to install the equipment. Solar is not for everyone. It requires a person to be stable in the residence, money to invest and government incentives such as federal and state tax breaks. A $14,000 installation, about 24 to 26 solar panels can generate between 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt hours of power per year. The size of the home, efficiency and use will determine if the power generated shall be 80% to 120% of the power needs of the home. An average home uses about 800 to 900 kilowatt hours per month. Most people agree to target 80% of the home needs. Therefore, a $2,000 a year electric bill can be $300 a year, plus fees, account cost, etc. That means $1,500 not paid and about a 10 year payout. After that ten years, free to low cost power bills. In a financial statement it looks like 9% return of investment 100% tax free. Add an electric car or plug-in hybrid and the numbers get better. Solar panels last about 25 years. Now, as to grabbing the smartphone to text, that is an addiction of the brain since most logical people pick up the phone to get an assessment and proposal as to installation from a solar panel company. Then, all answers are provided on paper for evaluation. You really need to be a lot slower with the smartphone and faster with the magical and powerful organ, the brain. Oh, I have such installation and since the system was installed I have paid for an average of 100 kilowatt hours per month to the power company. Go an ask for an free evaluation.

Solar energy is free, you just need something to collect it.

the energy is "Free" sun shines on the just and the unjust as well.

BUT the capital cost of installation is still rather high. Just as it costs billions to explore for oil.
