The Liberals will lose the support of the conservative voter if they allow gay marriage?
If that happens will it be the demise of the major parties.
Just to make a point, the minor parties have preferenced themselves not the majors in recent times, it could very well happen again

I vote for for the liberals and marriage equality doesn't mean much to me, in fact after being married and divorced twice any marriage doesn't mean much to me, either way it won't change my vote if the Libs support it or not.

So who will they vote for? Preferential voting means that at some stage on the ballot paper they must choose between the Coalition and the ALP. As both will have supported marriage equality, their only option will be to vote informal.

It doesn't really make any difference, if they vote for a further right minor party that party will support the Liberals in Parliament.

If the PM allows a conscience vote and a marriage equality bill is passed it will increase the LNP vote not lower it.
If the his polls and for the LNP are bad before the next election I believe he will do just that.
