Because evolution favors traits that improve an organism's ability to survive and reproduce, and being totally cool with dying does not bode well for survival.

Evolution only acts on things that affect the likelihood of reproduction. Fear of death does not affect our ability to reproduce. If anything it enhances it because it encourages us to leave a legacy that will last after we have gone, in the shape of our children.

Also, evolution can only act on what's in our genes. The concept of mortality and the fear of death are not hard-wired into our genes, they are not instinctive, they are learned. Self-preservation IS instinctive, but that's different to the fear of death.

Reality doesn't care if you're not 'okay' with death. You'll die regardless. My hope for you is that it is peaceful, after a long life filled with achievements and happiness.

That is because we were built for eternity. Consequently, we don't like endings.
