How should I go about designing/purchasing my wedding rings?

My husband I had a private courthouse wedding. No fuss, no muss. At the time we wore chain rings that I had made for us, looking similar to this https://mjtrim.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/silvers... but the over-the-back-of-the-hand design makes it so that my spouse can't wear his to work, and the chain-link clasp tends to catch on various fabrics around the house as well, so I'd like to get us some real wedding rings. Something simple and affordable would be best, we had a private wedding to begin with because we aren't rich. We want matching rings, each under 500$ if possible. I was thinking tungsten carbide for durability, with a plain black finish, maybe no gems at all, but I really want our rings to be unique somehow, not just black bands. i just don't know how to keep it simple while adding a unique touch, nor do I know how to go about ordering a custom ring like that. And if I get tungston, will the black color fade over time?

i would look into goth or medieval wedding bands. try these two sites for ideas.

or contact a custom designer who can make what you want exactly the way you want it. ( i would not use tungsten though. it shatters if you hit it and you don't have to hit it hard either)

Forget tungsten- it shatters, and it doesn't change over the years as will your hands.

There are any number of places that can inscribe, stamp or form rings in any shape or pattern you choose- look locally for a custom jeweler, or on etsy .com - there are lots of creative people there.

I would strongly suggest you stick with 14KT gold. it has the strength to last years, doesn't cause a rash, won't break into a thousand pieces, and can be altered as your fingers change. The soft patina gold gets over the years has a special glow about it that speaks volumes about a marriage, and a life. Far too many people try to get rings that will never age - and that just looks out of place when the couple grows older.

Think about patterns and symbols that are from your lives and backgrounds. Chances are very good, you'll find them available somewhere. But I'd look first on etsy- that's where you'll find that sort of thing.

    Talk to a jeweler.
