URGENT, PLS HELP!!?

Hi, does edf UK energy has the right to enter my flat? I went out but return home then within 30 minutes two edf knocked my door saying they got a court order that I must let them into flat to install an electric meter. I ask for a copy of the court order but they refused. I rang the police but police didn't say they were coming. They are still standing outside saying if I leave my flat they will change lock to deny me entry. I am responsible to pay my own bills it nothing to do with my landlord. I have never had any court summons too. What can I do? What advice could u give me mste?

The EDF Energy people do have a right to read your meter and disturbingly have the right also to force entry if they have not been able to read your meter for some time and have written to you or contacted you several times before.

However, they cannot prevent you from entering your own home and certainly cannot change the lock on your flat to deny you access. That is unlawful. As for the warrant, it is your right to see it and EDF's responsibility to show it. Otherwise it is an idle threat, and such a threat should be reported to the police.

Yes they can enter in the UK, all utilitiy companies can.Someone has not paid the electric bill, so they can enter and install a meter.

The court order will be at head office not with the installers, they are just following orders.

Keep refusing them entry and they will return with the Ballifs who will force entry. They have a legal right to so in the UK

The Landord owns the building not yourself.

As long asyou know you dont owe them any money for electric then wait until they show you the court order with your name on it - could it be money owed by the landlord to EDF? Meantime call the police again and tell them these guys are trying to get into your flat withoutyour permission or a court order to show you, Good Luck
