How to write a press release?

If I'm advertising a Big Lunch for the community based on a letter that's already been typed up, what changes should I make for the press release?

To write a press release, use your organization (or company) letterhead and type in all caps at the top "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE" then the date when you want the information to become public. Then below that list your salient points about the event as bullet points, using the common five elements of a news story: WHO WHAT, WHEN, WHERE and WHY. (you can mix these up as appropriate--they don't have to be in that particular order.) Put contact information (emaiil, address, phone numbers) at the bottom and mail it off to your news agency or news departments. Then follow up to make sure they received it and ask if they will send you a clip of the finished story.

As well as advice already provided try and think of your audience, they're journos looking for a story so try and make it easy for them by given crisp clear content with supporting data/resources (images etc)
