Redecorating my room for my birthday?

So for my 16th birthday I didn't want to ask to have a whole extravaganza since it's really not my sorta thing. Anyways, my mom offered to redecorate my room for my birthday and I liked that offer since all my furniture is really old and I wanted to make my room more "mature" looking since everything in my room is different shades of pink. I mean I like pink but I just want to save my future self who may hate the color pink. I wanted my room to be a neutral color like a creme or even a heather gray but I'm not sure on the colors and I really need help with choosing that. Thanks! Itd be easier to start off with a neutral wall because I can swap out accent colors if I get tired of them. Also, do you know any retail places where they sell good and inexpensive furniture? I already know it's going to be a lot of expenses on my parents but I want to try to save as much as I can.

The biggest savings will come from taking each piece of furniture outside, putting it on lots of newspaper, and spray painting it glossy black or white to go with a more mature neutral color scheme. That would leave you tons more money to spend on a new comforter set, throw rug, occasional pillows, bed lamps etc. Besides, redecorating usually means paint and other things while refurnishing means new furniture and your mom didn't offer that.

I love the idea of the idea of neutral walls and I'd go with a taupe color (a grayish tan) and then put a hoop canopy over the head of the bed area that coordinates with a comforter that has the same color. Here's a good one that comes in several colors. http://www.sears.com/octorose-purple-color-bed-can... I'd hang this with the split over the middle of the bed and the canopy hanging down in back of the headboard and on either side of the bed. They sell it for all sizes of beds and in ivory, black, purple, burgundy and even pink (which you wouldn't want). Then you could get a new comforter set with the canopy color in the pattern.

Something bold and more mature like this: http://www.sears.com/colormate-floral-comforter-se... this is a fun look that is girly but not childish at all. Plus, you could have so many options for the color of accessories and decor in your room.

Your neutral wall color is a great idea. Now pick out bedding and look around for furniture.

Ikea, Target, Wal-mart and so on.
