I was widely believed that Omar Sharif was not a muslim. So why did he have a muslim funeral?

Omar Sharif was born to a Syrian and Lebanese parents, he was a Christian but embraced Islam when he married an Egyptian actress but divorced later on. He became a matinee idol worldwide when he play "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Dr.Zhivago, both blockbusters in the early 60's. He had a Muslim funeral because he was entitled to.

Omar Sharif , being was following Catholic Religion , who was born in Egypt with Syrian-Lebanese parenthoods , got world wide acclaim and name and fame in the role of a villain in Lawrence of Arabia for which he got nomination for Academy award , and in 1960 , the role of Dr Zhivago/ the movie Dr zhivago , as a poet and visionary of Russian civil revolution , he became one of the most respected hero; prior to his marriage with a most famous Egyptian actress he embarrassed Islam since he was tolerant to every religion , and thus a God man who died during Ramadan and deserved to have a Muslim funeral.

It does not matter what you are. It matters what your relatives, friends and sociiety believes about you. People believed that Omar \sharif was a Muslim. So they pwerformed his last rites as a Muslim.

Omar Sharif was an Egyptian Muslim who fought for religious tolerance for many years. So I don't know where it was "widely believed" that he was anything other.

Omar was a good, peaceful Muslim who believed there are many roads to heaven.

Does it matter? Whatever he was, he was a man who loved G-d and kept more of the Commandments than most others do, of any religion.

As Muslims are fond of saying, "There is only ONE G-d." No matter what religion we may be, we go before Him. His funeral may or may not fit with his lifestyle, but, in the end, only G-d knows if we are allowed Paradise or not. Unlike actors today, I never heard anything bad about him and can only pray that he is allowed peace there.

He was a Muslim. Just because he sinned doesn't make him any less of a Muslim. He was a good man and he died in Ramadan.

He angered some Muslims when he said that Muslims do not have a monopoly on Heaven. he said that a good God would welcome every good person in heaven. He was a good example of a Muslim with an open mind.

It does not matter to me if Omar Sharif was buried as a Muslim or a Christian, For I am only interested in was he a good man while he was alive and did he love God......................
