Terms like "ego" and "superego" and such stem from Freud's era and are largely passe' now.
We know that some higher animals are self-aware and have a degree of consciousness. Adult great apes (chimps, gorillas) are about as bright as a 3-year old human child.
Others, like dolphins, dogs, etc....recognize themselves in mirrors, can learn a large vocabulary, and communicate with each other in various ways.

We are animals, and have one. So "ANIMALS" do have ego.
Do all animals have egos...sense of self? Who knows? Do we? Or do we just imagine ourselves to be something..that doesn't exist. Are we just observers watching a show, believing ourselves to be in control of the actors on the screen?
These answers are not going to be found in the mind. So...the answer is idk.

Humans are animals.
Ego = imagination/thought!
It is easy to determine where 'thought' exists by it's symptomatic behavior.
Insanity exists in 'thought/imagination; destruction, violence, corruption, vice, greed, selfishness,... are all symptoms of 'thought'.
