Does anyone here have an emotional support animal?
Where are you able to take him/her? I was thinking about one of my pets being an emotional support animal for me to help me with my social anxiety when I have to go certain places I'm not used to. I will have to go for an eye exam soon and I am dreading it. I was shaky and very nervous and afraid the last time I went. I was hoping I can bring one of my dogs or a kitten with me on the bus and to the doctor but I don't know much about emotional support animals and where they are allowed. How do you go about having an ESA?
Add: I do take medication already. I am considered disabled but I know it isn't a disability for a service dog. That is why I wondered about ESAs. I don't know why everyone is so rude to me for just asking about it. Anxiety and phobias are serious. It isn't something to make light of. :(

You will not be allowed to take your animal in anywhere with you.
"While the ADA does not grant owners of emotional support animals the right to be accompanied by these animals in establishments that do not permit pets, the DOJ/HUD’s Fair Housing Act does allow for disabled owners of emotional support animals to reside in housing that has a “No Pets” policy, as a reasonable accommodation. The DOT’s Air Carrier Access Act also allows those with proof of a disability the accommodation of being accompanied by an emotional support animal. "
I have debilitating Social Phobia. I suggest seeking a qualified therapist who can help you with this. I still can't do a lot of things most people do with ease but I no longer faint at the thought of having to interact with another person. With therapy and medication I am now a semi normal functioning member of society who has actual friends and doesn't need someone to hold my hand when I go to a Dr. appointment or someone to literally shove me through a door to a store.

Emotional support animals are nothing more then pets.
Just because you label the ESA doesn't give them any special rights.
They preform no jobs like Service Animals. You CAN NOT take them into public places such as stores and on public transportation.
They are pets.

You need a note from a doctor. I'd give you details but it isn't what you want. An ESA is allowed in housing and on public transportation. You can't just grab any pet, sprinkle fairy dust on its head, and say "you are an ESA" and take it to the doctor's or dentists with you. Sounds more like you need a valium, not an ESA.

ESA are just pets. You cannot take them anywhere, except where a PET is allowed.. you can take them to petco, or the dog park.
The only exception is for airlines, but you need proper documentation, and even that has restrictions due to restrictions placed on all airlines.
They are not service dogs, and do not have the same access as service dogs.
No, they cannot go to your eye appt or to the Dr tho. If things are "THAT" bad, then you get a RX for a valium or xanax or something.

Its a pet. You can't take it to stores, can't have it in a pet free rental, can't have it on public transport, can't have it at school or anything,
Since you are not disabled you cna't have a service dog and you have to leave the pet at home since you can't take it on the bus, can't take it to the doctors, can't take it to stores, adn cna't have it in pet free rentals. NO doctor can or will give you a magic note that will allow you to take it any where.
