Pentagon may lift ban on transgender men and women from serving openly. What is your opinion on this possible change?

http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/13/politics/pentagon-ma...

Earlier this week, the Secretary of Defense announced that there will be a six month study to determine the impact of removing the ban on allowing transgender men and women to serve.

Depending on the results of the study, the current ban may be lifted. During the six month study, people currently serving that come out as transgender will not be discharged without the approval of senior defense officials.

Some of the things that are being considered are living quarters, hormones in combat zones, and other medical and legal obstacles.

How do you think this will affect the military if the change is put in place?

they said that the military would crumble when blacks were permitted to fully integrate. they said it would be irrevocably weakened when Women joined, and the outcry was worse when they were admitted to Service Academies. Never happened.

for the most part nobody noticed when DADT was released.

the official position has always been Transgender were a MEDICAL disqualification due to the hormones required. I have not looked at the official documentation but I suppose if they were to change that stance, or maybe require then to be pre transition( no surgeries, which are also medical DQs) I don't see what the big deal is.

just make firm guidelines as to what gender they are treated as( the one you were born with or the one you identify with) and be done with it.

might be harder to make heads on board ships gender neutral but otherwise a bathroom is a bathroom. guys do not have to stand at a urinal in full view of everyone else to pee, they can go into a stall and close the door.

While the sympathy for transgendereds is admirable, the simple fact of the matter is being medication dependant for any reason is almost always a medical DQ. There are no special medicines required to be gay so this is not comparable to DADT. Transgendered people after their "operation" require a constant supply of hormones that for any other disorder, this wouldn't even be debated. We are being asked to ignore our own medical standards for political reasons.

Our military has been a social experimentation toy of Liberals since Clinton. This time they've purged the leadership of real commanders. Replacing them with ideological commissars. The current ban will be lifted. Our military will be nothing but armed cowards. But, they sure will look pretty!

Same as the argument since DADT - Is there something specific with transgenders that makes them not able to serve their country? If they are mentally and physically capable, let them serve. Just like being gay, being transgender does not mean they are going to rape everyone in the barracks.

Other countries have no such ban and do fine (Canada, for instance). I see no reason to retain such a ban - frankly, it's just bigotry trying to justify itself.
