Is the bat dead or alive?

We found the bat laying on my pillow this morning but when I moved it, it didn't flinch or anything. I put the pillow outside but it still wouldn't move so I covered it with a box, because I didn't want the birds to attack it while it's sleeping. Will it wake up at night and fly away?

I have seen them both ways, folded up dead and alive. I would call the department of fish and game or the health department they might want to test it for any illness or rabies. If they suggest you take it out away from your house then do so.
